Pirates kill 2 in Bayelsa

YENAGOA—TWO persons were reportedly killed
yesterday, when armed men, suspected to be pirates,
attacked a passenger boat along the Okoroma axis of the
Nembe/Brass waterways in Bayelsa East senatorial
district.
Five other passengers were said to have sustained
injuries.
The attack, which occurred at about 2p.m., came three
days after two security operatives and a civilian on board
an oil vessel were killed by some yet-to-be-identified
gunmen along the creeks of Ikebiri in Southern Ijaw Local
Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Vanguard gathered that the gunmen, numbering about
four, opened fire on the passenger boat along the
Okoroma Creek and killed two of the passengers, a young
man and a middle-aged woman.
Chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter of Maritime
Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, Mr. Lloyd Sese, who
confirmed the incident, said five persons were injured.
Contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr.
Asinim Butswat, said he was yet to get details of the
incident.
